SUMMARY:The Closing of a School: The History and Legacy of Central High Documentary Showing
DESCRIPTION:Operating from 1936 - 1968\, Central High was the only black high school in Hillsborough. Now called Hillsborough Elementary\, Central was closed in 1968 as segregated schools in the South were shut down. Dr. Iris Chapman presents this documentary to spotlight the African-American key to Central's existence during its 32 years of operation\, desegregation in action\, the closing of the school\, and the ensuing efforts to preserve Central's legacy. The shared universality of other Southern black schools being converted or closed is presented through out the film.\n\nThis event is free to the public and will take place in the lower level of the Milton McDade Meeting Room.
