SUMMARY:Japanese Tea Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Month and International Tea Day\, the Mebane Library is hosting a Japanese Tea Ceremony led by Eric Lane\, a certified Uransenke Tea School instructor with over 40 years of experience.   \n\n\n \n\n\nThe Japanese Tea Ceremony is an art form of cultural traditions involving specific places\, procedures\, and equipment for drinking green tea. The long history of tea originated in China as early as the 2nd century\, but as commerce expanded\, Japan was introduced to tea by the 8th century. By the 1300s\, Japan had taken tea drinking to new levels creating a refined culture of chado\, or way of tea. Our demonstration will walk you through the history\, etiquette\, and mindfulness behind Japanese Tea Ceremonies at every step. Participants will watch the ceremony and then have the chance to taste the tea. The first six registrants will have the tea prepared by Eric Lane\, but all will have fresh tea prepared during the ceremony.
