The Mebane Scoop: Pizza, Brews & Family Fun

Bright Penny Brewing, now a well-known establishment in Mebane, opened in May 2019 in the historic Rice Flour and Feed Mill building located downtown. At first glance, I thought, "Oh, just another brewery," but upon entering the establishment, you learn that there is so much more to it than that. Aside from offering over 20 craft beers like IPAs, ciders, stouts, pale ales, lagers, and more, this brewery provides food, games, and an experience that people of all ages can enjoy! Bright Penny has a lovely outdoor porch that wraps around to a section in the back covered by tents called the "Beer Garden." Children can run around and play while the adults chat, or people can rent this section out for a private event.

If you are like me, there is no enjoying an adult beverage without the addition of something delectable to munch on. When you think of food served at a brewery, the first thought that comes into my mind is food trucks or small appetizers. You don't expect to find the granddaddy selection of all deviled eggs! Located on the menu under the title Grandma's Eggs, you will find an array of the most exquisite-sounding deviled eggs. From eggs filled with local goat cheese to egg halves containing crab meat and horseradish topped with old bay seasoning, if you can think of it, they got it! These delicious deviled eggs are served in quantities of five, but if you have a hard time making decisions, not a problem. You can select a flight of deviled eggs where you pick and choose the ones you want to try just like you would for a beer flight. Not an egg person? That's okay because their menu has more options to choose from. Bright Penny Brewing also offers an assortment of 14 different Neapolitan Style Pizzas, such as The Wellington, a certified Angus Beef steak served with local Dijon mustard, rosemary honey, caramelized onions, and sliced provolone. Not your style? Then try the Loaded Potato pizza with a Bright Penny Beer cheese base topped with thinly sliced red bliss potatoes, pecanwood bacon, cheddar cheese, scallions, and a sour cream drizzle. I can personally attest to this pizza and tell you how scrumptious it is! Definitely a must-try for those who have never had it.

One aspect I love about this brewery is the events they regularly host for the public. For the month of July alone, they had an axe-throwing event with live music, a deviled egg-eating contest (which who doesn't like to watch food-eating competitions), and a dunk tank for charity event! This establishment is also pet friendly and works with Paws4ever to find local county shelter animals their forever homes. Whether you come for the food or stay for the drinks, Bright Penny Brewing has a little bit of something for everyone, and people of all ages are welcome through their doors! The City of Mebane seems to love Bright Penny Brewing as they opened a second location inside the Tanger Outlets in August of 2021, and I can see why! This brewery is a 10/10 recommendation for anyone looking for a fun weekend activity or a place to bring family and friends.
