Crisper air and cooler weather signify the start of my favorite time of year: FALL! Aside from the beautiful colors of the leaves on the trees and bringing out your comfiest sweaters and boots, fall also brings upon the holiday season! The first holiday falls in October and calls for dressing up in your scariest or cutest costume—cue Halloween! It's the best holiday if you ask me. Nothing quite beats the thrill and excitement of this time of year, from the ghoulish makeup to the spooktacular decorations.
If you like to dress up, like I do, you are constantly searching for events in your area to show off your creative costume and bask in the glory of others. When the City of Mebane Recreation and Parks Department posted about their Downtown Mebane Halloween Spooktacular, I knew it was a can't-miss event, and boy, was I right!
This past weekend, Saturday, October 26, the Halloween Spooktacular took place in downtown Mebane. It featured inflatable axe throwing, street games, corn hole, face painting, caricature artists, and more! The streets were buzzing with excitement, and the costumes were top-notch, with people of all ages partaking in the fun and dressing up. My favorite costume was the family dressed as Ash, Misty, Pikachu, and Squirtle. For those who are not familiar with those characters, they are all from the hit show, games, and, of course, trading card series, Pokémon! Pokémon was nostalgic in my household, and when I was younger, I had the most cards in my collector's book. In fact, that collector's book accompanied me everywhere, and yes, I do mean everywhere…Pokéman was and still is top tier!
The Downtown Mebane Halloween Spooktacular kicked off a fang-tastic Halloween week, and I am so glad I decided to attend the event. I highly recommend it for those new to the area, especially if you have kids. Toward the end of the event, all the downtown businesses come outside with candy, and all the kids go trick-or-treating from one shop to the next. So, lots of free candy BEFORE Halloween, and who doesn't love free candy? They also do a costume contest and select individuals to give awards to in various categories such as scariest costume, most creative, best family costume, etc. Seeing all the little ones dressed up and their parents matching their costumes or following along with a specific theme was too cute.
The Downtown Mebane Halloween Spooktacular is a 10 out of 10 family-friendly event, and I for one, will be sure to mark my calendar for next year so I never miss out on the Halloween fun!
